Chatham Grammar School for Girls (CGSG) in Medway, Kent, is a designated Technology College that offers its students a wide variety of stimulating and motivating opportunities to achieve outstanding academic outcomes. CGSG approached NCS Technology to undertake a major LED lighting upgrade in their sports hall. The LED lighting installation needed to increase lighting levels to improve the conditions for playing sport, whilst also reducing energy and costs.
The existing 175 watt light fittings omitted low lux levels. NCS worked with UK lighting manufacturer, Earlsmann, to replace the 45 existing twin fittings with LED equivalents. The new 65 watt Portsmouth LED lights omit higher lux levels whilst using less power. The installation took place during the school’s half term, which meant there was no disruption to students and staff using the space.
This LED lighting solution reduces the school’s energy use, cutting the cost of bills, whilst also improving the light levels in the space.
CGSG now has bright, clear lighting in their sports hall, creating an inviting environment where their students have the opportunity to develop their full sporting potential. The improved lux levels mean the space is also more desirable to private lettings.
For this lighting upgrade, CGSG took advantage of Salix funding, an interest free loan that enables public sector organisations to install energy efficient projects. The new LED lighting solution at CGSG creates savings of £8,000 over the next five years, easily paying off the original investment within four years.
